a 2022 reflection + update

Hi friend!

Can we believe it’s 2023?! As I know is the case for a lot of folks, 2022 was rough. For me, it was a long, grieving year of bold conversations, new beginnings, constant transition, and simple joys (always the “yes and”). I’m grateful for every time I spoke up, every time I got quiet to listen, and every miracle & act of magic I witnessed (which, I’m convinced, is actually everything and everyone, all of the time). If we’ve been in each others’ lives in some way over the last year - thank you! What a joy to be alive and together.

If you’re like me and enjoy reflection + journal prompts, I absolutely ADORED this free, printable booklet from Year Compass. I spent some time writing (and crying over) the 2022 reflection pages, and I plan to come back to the intention setting pages once I have more space and energy. I’ve found myself in the camp of “I want to set intentions, but also I need some f*ckin rest,” so I send this reminder to you and me both: it is still winter (at least in the northern hemisphere), and your new intentions can wait until spring/another time when the energy is shifting.

While the year certainly felt long, it also had so many lovely, bright moments. Somehow my 2022 contained all of this goodness: taking on incredible new supervisees, going briefly viral for a JVN post, guest hosting some lovely colleague’s group supervisions, providing eating disorder education and outreach to dietetics students and clinicians, cutting all my hair off, seeing some amazing colleagues and friends IN PERSON, teaching my first semester at MSU Denver, hosting the very first Counseling Skills for Dietitians Who Give a Damn course, taking some much needed time off, speaking on a few fabulous podcasts, reading 82 books, and changing my name to Charlie.

Whew!

I hope you're able to take a moment to soak in all the ways you have navigated your year, and I hope you have much to celebrate. It continues to be an honor and a true joy to be in community with you. I honor the big heart you keep showing up with, the new paths we are building together, and all of the goodness you are adding to the world.

Welcome to 2023, friend. I can’t wait to see where we go next. 🧡
